Joanne Giam

Joanne is an associate of I.R.B. Law LLP. She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Singapore Bar in 2022.

Joanne’s experience in the legal industry started in 2016, when she joined as a paralegal with the Firm while concurrently reading law as part of the pioneer batch of Singapore University of Social Sciences’ (SUSS) School of Law. Upon graduation, she was also awarded the Vangat Ramayah Memorial Prize as the top student in Family Law.

Joanne assists her clients throughout their key stages in life, from birth-related matters to post-death. Her main areas of practice and experience are matrimonial and estate matters, specifically in probate, estate planning, adoption and mental capacity applications.

Joanne comprehensively guides her clients through the legal complexities and is able to provide direct and practical advice tailored to each client’s interests.

Joanne is also regularly engaged by insurance companies and private organisations to speak about estate planning and mental capacity applications.

Aside from practice, Joanne plays the piano and guitar. She sees the importance in being both mentally and physically strong, hence she stays active by going to gym daily.

Work Highlights

-  Assisted in a reported contested probate application (VFD and another v VFF and others [2020] SGFC 10), which involved allegations of testamentary capacity and undue influence. The Deceased’s Will was successfully upheld and the Defendants’ claims were dismissed.

-  Acted for a client in a High Court application for variation of Trust Deed to sanction a sale of a Trust Property
