Meenakshi is an associate at I.R.B. Law. She graduated from the University of Manchester with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), and is admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore after completing her training with the firm.
Presently, Meenakshi is part of the litigation practice team and has experience in the areas of criminal defence work, family proceedings and representing clients in contractual and tortious disputes.
Work Highlights
- Assisted in securing an acquittal for a client on appeal to the High Court. The individual claimed trial to a charge under voluntarily causing grievous hurt. After a 7-day trial, he was convicted and sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment. On appeal, the Honourable Justice Chua Lee Ming agreed with the Defence’s submissions and found the individual not guilty.
- Assisted in an appeal on sentence to the High Court. The accused person pleaded guilty to 2 charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act for trafficking ketamine and methamphetamine. At the State Courts, the District Judge, in agreeing with the Prosecution, sentenced the accused person to 9 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane. On appeal to the High Court, the Honourable Justice Vincent Hoong agreed with the Defence’s submissions and reduced the sentence to 8 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane.
- Assisted in representing a client who was initially charged with murder. The charges were subsequently reduced to voluntarily causing grievous hurt. After the plead guilty hearing, a sentence of 66 months’ imprisonment was passed on the accused person.
- Assisted in the successful procurement of an expedited protection order and subsequently, a protection order under the Protection from Harassment Act for a client who was being stalked and harassed by her previous romantic partner.
