Sumaiyah graduated from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia with a Bachelor of Laws (Distinction) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration in 2014. She was the recipient of the Dean’s Property Law Prize in 2012.
Sumaiyah also gained a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from The College of Law, Australia in 2015 and was In-House Counsel Certified (ICC) by the Association of Corporate Counsel in 2021.
Having been called to the Australia Bar in 2016, and Singapore Bar in 2019, Sumaiyah is dual-qualified and has a broad general practice with a focus on litigation and dispute resolution. Previously she worked in the Supreme Court of Singapore, handling individual and corporate insolvency matters.
Sumaiyah regularly acts for clients on a diverse range of matters, including debt recovery, individual insolvency and bankruptcy, deputy applications under the Mental Capacity Act and Probate and Estate Administration. She also represents clients in uncontested and contested matrimonial proceedings in the Family Justice Courts, and Syariah Court of Singapore, as well as advising clients on private and estate planning matters, such as Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and property-related Powers of Attorney.
Sumaiyah is fluent in both English and Tamil.
