Koh Boon Yang

Boon Yang is a dedicated criminal defence lawyer with experience spanning both sides of the criminal justice system. Before joining I.R.B. Law LLP, Boon Yang served as an Assistant Director (Legal) at a government ministry, where he reviewed investigation papers, assessed evidence, and recommended charges. This prosecutorial perspective gives him a practical understanding of how the State builds its cases — an advantage he now brings to the defence of his clients.

Prior to his time in the public sector, Boon Yang was in active criminal defence practice, where he was involved in a wide range of white-collar, regulatory, and serious criminal matters. He has experience across all stages of criminal proceedings, from pre-charge investigations and representations to trial advocacy and appellate work in the High Court. His notable cases include assisting in one of the largest criminal breach of trust cases in Singapore, as well as a landmark High Court decision establishing the sentencing framework for careless driving offences causing hurt.

A compassionate and driven criminal defence lawyer, Boon Yang is passionate about standing by individuals who find themselves in difficult and uncertain situations. He firmly believes that every accused person deserves to be heard, and is committed to assisting his clients in achieving the justice they deserve.

Boon Yang graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours), placing in the top 5% of his cohort. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2023.
