Joel’s main area of practice is Family Law. He advises and represents clients in a broad range of matrimonial and family related matters, including divorce proceedings, ancillary matters, child related disputes, maintenance, and family violence matters.
In addition to his Family Law practice, Joel also handles Private Wealth and Probate matters, including wills, estate planning, probate and administration proceedings, and related advisory work. While his primary focus remains Family Law and Private Wealth matters, he also advises and represents clients in criminal and other contentious matters, depending on the nature of the dispute and the needs of the client.
Joel trained and commenced practice as a litigator, with experience appearing before the bench in both the State Courts and the Supreme Court of Singapore. His background in contentious practice has shaped a measured and practical approach to dispute resolution, with an emphasis on clear advice, careful preparation, and effective advocacy.
Joel believes that legal practice, particularly in the Family justice sphere, should not lose sight of the human realities underlying each dispute. As a proponent of therapeutic and collaborative justice, he seeks, where appropriate, to guide clients toward constructive and practical resolutions while remaining mindful of the need to firmly protect their interests when circumstances require.
Clients appreciate Joel’s calm and approachable demeanour, as well as his ability to explain complex legal issues in a clear and reassuring manner. He places significant importance on building trust with clients and understands that many legal disputes are deeply personal experiences. Joel is committed to supporting clients with professionalism, sensitivity, and practical guidance throughout the course of their matters.
