Kulvinder’s practice focuses primarily on complex matrimonial and family litigation, where she has achieved highly favourable outcomes for her clients. She has successfully acted for both mothers and fathers in contentious family disputes involving custody, care and control, access arrangements, maintenance and the division of matrimonial assets. In one notable case, the Court awarded her client, the husband, 80% of the matrimonial asset pool. In another notable case, the Court awarded her client, the homemaker wife, monthly maintenance of S$24,500 together with a S$14.1 million share of the matrimonial asset pool. Kulvinder has also frequently obtained both sole care and control and shared care and control orders for fathers who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the upbringing and welfare of their children.
Kulvinder was also counsel in the landmark five-judge Court of Appeal decision in UDA v UDB [2018] SGCA 20, which clarified the jurisdiction of the Singapore courts in matrimonial proceedings and the extent to which the court may make orders affecting third-party rights when dividing matrimonial assets
Kulvinder regularly advises and represents clients in high-conflict family proceedings, including disputes involving significant assets, cross-border elements and complex issues relating to the welfare of children. Her approach combines strategic advocacy with a practical focus on securing outcomes that protect her clients’ long-term interests.
Beyond her matrimonial practice, Kulvinder also maintains a strong civil and commercial litigation practice. She has been involved in Court of Appeal hearings and High Court trials across a broad spectrum of matters, including claims involving breaches of directors’ duties, contractual disputes, insolvency, defamation, caveats on industrial land and the interpretation of key legislation such as the Women’s Charter and Supreme Court of Judicature Act.
Kulvinder has also successfully argued various interlocutory applications, including Mareva Injunctions and applications for a stay of arbitration proceedings. She has experience in both domestic and international arbitration, including matters relating to the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Singapore.
In addition to dispute resolution work, Kulvinder regularly advises corporations on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters, and acts for both individuals and companies in contentious and non-contentious matters including contractual disputes, employment matters, landlord-tenant disputes, probate and matrimonial issues.
